This Don Quijote partner school presents an intimate, lovely & young flair with its gardens & terraces and is situated right opposite the campus of the towns large ‘Universidad Autónoma’. To explore the urban quarters with their historic architecture, museums and cafes you just need to take a 10 minutes trip and although you are in the capital of the Dominican Republic, there are lots of outdoor sports & activities to enjoy nearby, like mountain biking, jungle hikes & watersports.

Santo Domingo – info

Santo Domingo is the oldest city founded by Europeans in the Americas & has between 2 & 2.5 million inhabitants. In the past it had to be rebuild several times after an earthquake, the destruction of the town by Sir Francis Drake as well as frequent attacks by the British & French. 

The Dominican Republic went through centuries of colonial & foreign reign before it gained its independence, which was followed by a dictatorship.

Things to do in Santo Domingo: 

Jardín Botánico: Discover the stunning exotic plants and revitalise from your bustling school & beach visits. 

Alcázar de Colón: This UNESCO World Heritage Site now houses an art exhibition with paintings from the Middle Ages & the Renaissance.

Plaza de España: Historical plaza, situated next to the Alcázar – great ambience & architecture!

Catedral Primada de América: You will be stepping into the most ancient Cathedral of Latin America – why don’t you hunt for the different gothic & baroque design elements.

Fortaleza Ozama: Check out the oldest fortress of the Americas, which had been claimed by 6 diferent nations throughout the Republic’s turbulent history of occupation.

Activities

Don Quijote schools are also offering various other afternoon/weekend activities e.g. dance lessons, city tours, visits to museums, excursions to nearby towns & villages as well as Tapas tours & movie nights.
