Amazon Jungle program – Instituto Superior de Español
This is not the usual Spanish class: You will know that for a fact as soon as you are putting on some Wellington boots to climb into a motorised canoe that takes you 1 hour deep into the Amazon Jungle. Before you get to your new destination for the next days or weeks you will say goodbye to your friends on social media, your internet connection, basically your digital self and “hola” to this wonderful natural world filled with hummingbirds, macaws, honey bears and monkeys along a stunning river called Napo. And of course you will meet the Quichua people, who are living and preserving their century old traditions right here. To make friends with them, you might simply start out with a smile and a few hand gestures – don’t worry, just let your daily Spanish lessons take care of the rest. Afternoon excursions into the jungle, chats about the Amazon rainforest and its many ‘inhabitants ‘, a healing ceremony by a shaman as well as great local food will turn this trip into a true little adventure whilst your home away from home will be a comfortable Eco Lodge. You are gonna be in good hands as an experienced ISE teacher who knows the area like the back of their hand will be traveling with you & your fellow students.

Amazon rainforest: Is housing 2.5 million diverse insect species and more than 40000 plants, forming 10% of the worlds known species.
Napo river: Has its origin on the eastern side of the Andes & runs through one of the regions with the most tense biodiversity in Latin America e.g. containing the reserves of Sumaco & Yasuni, which are 2 of the main National Parks here and amalgamates with the Amazon river approx. 80km down from Iquitos.
Naporunas: A few hundred years ago the people of the Napo river have been expelled by Portuguese rubber harvesters & moved up-stream where they mixed with the Quichua communities and are now known as the Naporunas or Quichuas.
What students said about this school:
I enjoyed my stay in the Amazon so much! I didn’t expect to be able to travel and to see so many different places in such a short time. I’ve seen Coca, Tena and Misuhalli, stayed in this beautiful lodge close to the Naporiver, and visited the Shuar close to Puyo. I really enjoyed my stay! (Anna, Germany)
Being at ISE was incredible! I feel like I learned a lot and all of the teachers that I had were really wonderful. They all made for a wonderful experience, and made it easy to be excited about learning Spanish! (Natalia, USA)
