Ecuador – info

Ecuador, as the name suggests, was titled after its most famous geographical landmark, the equatorial line, which is located just north of Quito. The country houses Mount Chimborazo – the earth’s closest peak to the sun. Quito is  Ecuadors capital as well as the highest constitutional capital in the world. The country is divided into 4 topographical zones: The coast, the highlands, the Amazon region & the islands.

In 2008 Ecuador completed a revolutionary plan being the number 1 country to not consider its natural environment as ‘property’ and instead acknowledging its constitutional rights which will help to maintain & regenerate it. Belonging to the 17 so called megadiverse countries, the biodiversity here is the most tense in the world.

The rich cultural heritage of Ecuador, which can be witnessed in numerous well preserved historic sites, stretches from the first small groups of Indigenous settlers to the Inca Empire and extends through the Spanish colonial occupation to a democratic multi-ethnic society.
