Language school Quito – Instituto Superior de Español

The bucketloads of heart & soul this school presents are plain to see: From Eugenio, who founded this ‘haven’ 25 years ago as one of the first Spanish schools in Ecuador & who is more passionate than ever about organising your stay & answering your questions about anything & everything, to a guy called Washington, who will welcome you at the airport with a genuine smile on his face, then drive you to your new family & spread his knowledge about his hometown, all free of charge, by the way. Salsa dance lessons twice a week are also included in your cultural program and Mario, the kindhearted handyman of the ‘Instituto’ will be the one to conjure a wonderful Ecuadorian meal with you every Thursday, whilst chitchatting about his country & life in general. ISE overall seems to tick the boxes: an intimate laid-back atmosphere, small group sizes, great location in the city centre, WIFI, highly qualified, fun & patient teachers and staff who are so well organised & happy to assist with your day to day challenges in this new culture – all of which helps give you an immediate feeling of comfort & enjoyment.

What students said about this school:

I had a great week at ISE learning Spanish in the mornings, seeing Quito in the afternoon and then practicing Spanish with my homestay family in the evenings. Immersion was very effective and I am much more confident in Spanish than I was before. Thank you for your time and hard work. I enjoyed learning Salsa, and spend a great day in the mountains with the pupils. (Becky, USA)

My time in Ecuador was simply amazing. Starting with spanish course in Quito I got to learn so much about cultural differences and life in Ecuador. After Quito I spent 4 weeks in the jungle with shuar indigenous people community, where I learn a lot about the importance of the rain forest and the need of protection and conservation. It was such a great experience that gave me a better understanding about the worlds around. (Egle, Lithuania)

I had a great time at the school and learnt a lot – more than I expected. I will recommend the school to all people that ask me about opportunities to learn Spanish in South America. (Matthias, Switzerland)

Quito – info

This unique city is nestled in the Andes at an incredible 2850 metres above sea level and overlooked by the active volcano Pichincha in the west of Quito. The town unites most of Ecuadors important financial, cultural & administrative associations.

Formerly the area has been inhabited by several indigenous tribes and has formed an integral part of the Incan Empire, until it was occupied by Spanish settlers in the 16th century. Quitos historic centre is very well preserved & houses some of the first UNESCO world cultural heritage sites….

Things to do in Quito:

Museo Nacional: Iconic building which includes a grand collection of Ecuadorian art as well as pre- & post colonial archeological artefacts.

Pichincha Teleférico: This sky rail takes you up the side of the Pichincha volcano to heights of over 4000 metres where amazing views & a further summit trail are on offer.

La Mariscal: To start your stay in Quito, go for a wander & ‘get lost’ in this historical quarter & UNESCO world heritage site.

Basilica del Voto Nacional: Curious cathedral that boasts Galapagos- dolphins, monkeys & turtles instead of gargoyles & for good reasons is partially incomplete – let its lift take you up to greater heights!

Floresta quarter: Fashionable neighbourhood off the beaten tourist track – good food, music & art scene.

El Pobre Diablo bar: Kick back with a glass of wine whilst taking in some inspiring live tunes (located at Floresta).

Courses start Mondays / 2 to 6 persons per group / 1 group lesson = 55 minutes – 1 private lesson = 55 minutes  / course materials included as well as several activities & airport transfer (Quito).
