Salamanca – info

Salamanca is located northwest of Madrid, in the Castilla & Leon region that borders with Portugal. With its outstanding traditional architecture & one of Europe’s oldest Universities it deserves the name “Golden city” and is internationally recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site. Despite of its respectable size Salamanca has got a very homely feel & intimate ambience, it is very easy to get around in the centre of town without transport. And its surrounding areas with its lakes & mountains give you the opportunity for outdoorsy day trips.

Things to do in Salamanca:

El lunes de agua: A medieval tradition, taking place on Easter Monday on which friends & family spend time together mostly with a picnic on the Tormes river bank.

Convento de San Esteban: Former Gothic – Renaissance cloister made of sandstone with spectacular facade, that houses exhibitions – peaceful grandeur.

La Galatea: Bookshop offering bargains, comic books, antique books and a great selection of Vinyls – this place makes time travels possible.

La Cocina de Toño: Mainly Spanish locals eat here – the delicious ‘Pinchos’ & great value dishes make a visit more than worth while. Authentic cuisine & atmosphere.

Huerto de Calixto y Melibea: Wonderful enclosed garden right in the centre with panoramic vistas. The perfect oasis for doing your studies outdoors or taking a relaxing break.

ART/ HISTORY/ LITERATURE: Addressed to students with at least an intermediate level (B1), can be combined with Spanish language lessons, classes specialising on historic events, Spanish & Latin-American literature, artwork and culture.

COOKING: Roll up your sleeves & learn about the regional cuisine, create & taste the flavours of the area, a great way to unwind & get stuck in, several lessons per week.

Don Quijote schools are also offering various other afternoon/weekend activities e.g.  city tours, visits to museums, excursions to nearby towns & villages as well as Tapas tours & movie nights.

What students said about Don Quijote Salamanca

In Salamanca and Barcelona I had a great time. Not only I learned the Spanish language/culture, but I made some friends for life too. It was really a fantastic period !!! (Michael Feelders, 27)

My experience in Salamanca and with Don Quijote was outstanding and I would recommend it to anyone. I am an older student (38 at the time) and it was wonderful for me. Don Quijote makes young and old welcome. Thank you for this wonderful experience and I hope to return one day. (Elaine Jones, 40)
